Antique Georgian  porcelain  teacup and saucer Circa 1820-1840 Ref. C- 49

The charming cup and saucer duo shown above (typically unmarked) shows a finely hand-painted design in green and gilt as an 'overglaze' on a fine translucent white porcelain. The cup shows the typical London Shape, with an elaborate handle showing a thumb-rest and numerous 'spurs'. Unmarked, as mentioned, apart from the number'2093' seen in red on the bottom of both pieces. This would have been an expensive set, likely to have been made by a well-known pottery.  The shape of the cup and handle, the depth of the saucer and just a slight suggestion of a centre 'well' for the cup to rest in, all point to the early 1820-1840 era. The glaze shows a slight 'orange-peel' effect and small black spots (due to contamination of coal dust from the kilns) also help to substantiate the date.

The cup and saucer, both fluted, are in good condition with no cracks or chips. Slight wear to the gilding, especially on the rims and, the green enamel is slightly faded in some areas

The cup stands 5.5cm high with a diameter of 10.0cm. The saucer stands 2.9cm high with a diameter of 14.9cm.
Please note, I am NOT a qualified archaeologist/antiquarian and the description I have given is based on research of the subject.
This is a genuine antique. Please remember the classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
