Delve into South African history with this vintage stoneware S.A.G.I ginger beer bottle, bearing the mark "HOPE" instead of the usual S.A.G.I marking. Despite this unique feature, it is believed to be among the most common ginger beer bottles from the South African Garrison Institute (S.A.G.I), offering a tangible connection to the Boer War era.

Crafted from earthenware, this bottle stands approximately 17cm tall and 7cm in diameter, weighing 558g. Despite signs of age such as fine chips on the bottom, it remains in good condition overall, preserving its historical significance.

Although lacking a lid, this bottle exudes charm and character, serving as a poignant reminder of South Africa's military past. Whether integrated into a memorabilia collection or displayed as a standalone piece, it offers a captivating glimpse into history and sparks conversation among enthusiasts and historians alike.

The South African Garrison Institutes Fund, established in 1902, aimed to supply regular troops in South Africa with goods at favorable rates. Following the Great War, the fund's assets were remitted to England, with a portion invested by the Army Council for the benefit of the British Army.
