Book in good condition for ex-lib - wrapper in great condition **** Set just prior to World War I (The Great War at Sea), this series has generally been top-notch. The characters are well-drawn and the procedures/events seem to have tremendous verisimilitude with how the Royal Navy might have worked in that era. I like the fact that Halfhyde hasn't received virtually a promotion every book (the formula I see with Bolitho, Drinkwater, Hornblower, Lewrie, etc.). I also enjoy (as in almost every other naval adventure) how Halfhyde reacts to idiotic officers who assume command above him (almost like MBAs in the modern workforce who know nothing about the business in which they're working, but have "go-no go" authority over the creative process, anyway). * Nautical Fiction *
