Fairy Stories from Hans Christian Andersen
A beautifully preserved 1917 copy of the famed storyteller's 12 most popular tales. Brightened with 48 colour illustrations by Margaret W Tarrant, famous in her own time for her lovely paintings and illustrations of children and fairies. Her artwork and copies thereof are still selling like hot cakes. Included in the 12 stories are The Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling and The Snow Queen.
A rare 1917 edition published by Ward, Lock & Co, London, Melbourne and Toronto. The first volume of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, titled Fairy Tales Told for Children, was published in 1835.
Condition: Very good considering its age. The spine is bleached with a minor tear and light wear and tear. Insides of spine somewhat loose front and back. Foxing on halftitle and minor foxing throughout book. Date 29th Sept 1917 handwritten on reverse of hardboard front cover.
