A rare, antique Dutch silver miniature/peppermint box.
Although we refer to the Dutch boxes as "peppermint" boxes they are in fact Loderein boxes, used to house perfume. The word Loderein originates from the French term "l'eau de reine" translated as "water of the king", as only the wealthy could afford the perfumed cologne. See photos for details, in good overall condition consistent with age. Hallmarked with date letter for 1863.
