The Mammals of South West Africa - By Captain G.C. Shortridge, M.B.E., C.M.Z.S.

The author was a South African mammologist, noted for his collections of animals from areas where little to no research of species found there had been undertaken. He travelled widely in Australia, Guatemala, India and Burma, collecting and documenting local wildlife. He later became director of the Kaffrarian Museum in King William's Town, and had several animals and new taxa named in his honour.
