Antique Allen & Son Sheffield Chrome Plated 4 Egg Cup Caddy - Vintage Mixed Set, Incomplete, Unique Find 1800s to early 1900s.

Charming antique egg cup caddy from Allen & Son Sheffield, featuring a vintage chrome plated finish.

This unique set includes a caddy and four egg cups, though the cups are slightly mismatched

The caddy exhibits signs of age with small black tarnish spots and silver loss on the bottom, typical of plated brass items from this era.

While missing spoons, this set is a delightful find for collectors or those with an appreciation for vintage kitchenware.

Each egg cup measures approximately 7cm high, with a combined weight of 449g for the entire set.

Marked on the bottom with "Allen & Sons Sheffield," indicating its prestigious origin and manufacturer.

The caddy measures 20cm in height, 22.5cm in length, and 15.7cm in width, making it a lovely display piece for any kitchen or dining area.

Perfect  as a unique decorative accent in a retro-themed space.

This business was apparently founded in about 1818 by George Allen, who was born in Sheffield in about 1794.  His first listing in a directory appears to have been in 1837, when he was manufacturing pen knives and razors in Eyre Lane.  By 1841, George Allen was listed as a manufacturer of razors, spring-knives, plated spoon-fork, patent convoluter, in Eyre Lane and Duke Street.  By 1879, the firm traded as Allen & Son, with Robert Allen (Western Bank) as the owner.
