A very old edition, still in good condition, of this much-loved Fairy Tale for a Land-Baby. With a 100 original pen-drawings by Linley Sambourne. Written in 1862-63 as a serial for Macmillan's Magazine it was first published in its entirety in 1863. It was written as part satire in support of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species and as a tract against child labour.

This edition published 1896 by Macmillan and Co, New York. Condition: Very good for its age. Binding is secure. Hinge exposed at first and last page but no loose pages. Brown marks and foxing on first and last pages. Previous owner's name in front. Hardcover in good condition, slightly worn at spine. Gilded title on spine and gilded stamp on front.
