Who was the enigmatic Edgar Allan Poe, famous for his poems and tales of mystery and the macabre?

Poe is an American writer, poet, editor and literary critic. He is credited with writing the first detective story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue. His most famous poem, The Raven, made him instantly famous. He married his 13-year-old cousin, Virginia Clemm, in 1836. When she died of tuberculosis 11 years later, his lifelong struggle with depression and alcoholism worsened. He died at 40, and to this day the cause of his death is not known. With black-and-white illustrations. 748 pp.

First published 1926 in two volumes. This revised one-volume edition was published in 1934 by Farrar & Rhinehart, New York. Condition: Good. First flyleaf stained by ex libris sticker on inside front cover. Some foxing. Front inside hinge exposed. Pages tanned, but neat and clean. Cover stained. Weight: 1,3 kg
