Robert Gordon, originally from Keetmanshoop, collected the data for this book in 1973/4, while working as a Personnel Officer on mining project near Windhoek which, when it went into full production, employed 2,000 workers. Although he did so for academic purposes, he kept his intentions to himself and gathered his information informally. The result is a highly readable first-hand account of conditions on the ground in the Namibian mining sector when change was in the air but not yet arrived. 'The critical question is how to maintain the profitability of the mines which are the backbone of the territory's economy, and at the same time restore humanity to the workers.'

Softcover. English. Ravan Press. 1977. ISBN: 76092036784. 276 pp. Foxing due to age and paper quality, but binding still firm. Book No: 2505996
