According to Frescura ("Post Offices of The Cape of Good Hope 1792-1910") a post office named Lower Olifants River was opened on 15 January 1859. The post office's name was changed in 1868 to "Troe Troe, Lower Olifants River" but was abolished in 1871, only to reopen on 1 September 1873 - also confirmed by Putzel - under the name of "Troe Troe".

The front on offer carries a clear pen cancellation "TroeTroe 16/4/71" so it must have been cancelled by post mistress Anna Van Rhyn (hence the evolution to Vanrhynsdorp" in 1885) while the post office was known as "Troe Troe Lower Olifants River".

The letter then went on to Clanwilliam where it received BONC 10 and oval datestamp (20 Apr 1871) and arrived at Cape Town on 21 Apr 1871.

Superb item as per scans below.
