J. M. Barrie's 1904 stage play Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up was a remarkable success and in 1911 Barrie published the novelized version of the play, titled Peter Pan and Wendy. Publisher George Bell & Sons (with Barrie's consent) cashed in on the play's popularity, first publishing The Peter Pan Picture Book in October 1907, years before Barrie's novel.

The Peter Pan Picture Book was adapted by Alice B. Woodward and Daniel O'Connor. Alice Woodward created the 28 striking colour illustrations, helping to establish the look and feel of Peter Pan characters for generations to come.

Hard back binding in publisher's original grey paper covered boards, red title lettering to the spine, with a colour printed paper pastedown on the front cover. The latter has some marks on it.
64 pages with 28 full-page colour pictures as called for, each with a facing captioned guard leaf. Some lines of musical notation are interspersed with the text.
This is overall a Good copy, complete and unmarked. Pages and plates are clean and very good condition, especially considering its age. The image areas are bright and fine.
Foxing on first 4 pages and last page. Two very light crayon marks on top half of the title page, and another mark on the next page facing the first picture also on the top half of page. (See photographs for detail.)
Remarkably the brown endpapers are intact - no tears to the gutter or hinge area. Hinges are tender but intact. Text block loose from the end papers on front and back, but still attached to the spine. Top right corner of text block has been creased about 1cm from corner, but still in good condition.
Corners bumped, old ink message to the front free end paper. Moderate bruising to board edges, with slight surface loss to corners and a 3cm by 6cm on left hand bottom corner of back cover; moderate rubbing & little soiling to covers.
Slight wear to top and bottom of spine exposing spine lining. Lifting of paper on the front cover joint.
    G. Bell and Sons logo printed in bright red ink on back cover.
    Hardcover. Condition: Good.
Published by G. Bell & Sons, Ltd. (London) 1911. Fifth Edition. 1911.
    No Dust Jacket.
    Binding Condition: Very Good
Overall Condition: Good to Very Good
    Size: Octavo/8vo, 254 mm X 190 mm X 22 mm.
    62 text pages.

A scarce book, very worthy of preservation. A delightful copy rich with beautiful imaginative illustrations with the pages in a Fine condition.
