Description: Exceptionally fine Austrian wheel engraved Ruby red glass Beer Stein circa 1860 1887.  Ref. GL-2
Maker: Karl Gordon, Austria
Date: Estimated between 1860 - 1887
History: Karl Gordon was born on August 31st 1818 in Gmunden / Traundorf, Austria. He married Mrs. Anna Schöller on July 26th 1846, in Wimsbach, Upper Austria. He originally worked in Wimsbach as a Pewterer and in June 1860 he settled down at Pfarrhofgasse 89 Gmunden. He died on September 13th 1887 in Gmunden
Marks/Observations: A superbly engraved ruby glass stein showing a magnificent stag in a forest.  The stein has a pewter lid encasing a clear glass inlay (typical for the mid 1800s) which houses a dried flower, (looks like an Edelweiss flower). The thumb-lift is heavy pewter with a deer horn attached. The stamp Gordon Gmunden is on the underside of the lid.
Just below the rim and to the left of the top of the handle is the signature (?) of the engraver, a engraved L and the number 3/10  (3rd of October??)
Condition: Excellent condition throughout.Very slight damage to the end of the deer horn. Some minor surface scratches and a very small mark on the handle.
Dimensions: Height 16.00 cm (to top of lid), Diameter 7.3 cm at base.
