The oak tree next to the Memorial was grown from an acorn from Delville Wood where hundreds of South African soldiers died during 1916. Six acorns where given to the Lowveld Memorial Order of Tin Hats (MOTHS), only 2 trees survived, one of which is at Pilgrim's Rest.
