Description: Victorian Cup and Saucer Willow pattern circa 1888. Ref. C/91
Maker: A number of companies could have produced this duo, namely Caughley, Miles Mason, Davenport, Rogers, Wedgwood, Spode, Copeland, Allerton, Ashworth, Godwin to name a few.
Date:  No backstamp but there is a registered number, 109214, which places the set at around 1888.
History:  The Willow pattern was originally derived from the Chinese. Early versions vary to a large degree and consequently, unless the article has a back stamp, it is very difficult to attribute them to any particular maker.
Marks/Observations:  The cup shows a deep, fluted design as does the saucer, both with a scalloped rim edge, embellished with gilding.  Note the large saucer but with a recessed centre for the cup. This feature is not seen in the early Georgian sets. There are two blobs of glaze to the rim of the cup. The duo show a light blue transfer ware printed Willow pattern design.
Condition: Good throughout, the gilding is worn as to be expected and the saucer shows three fine hairlines on the reverse although they are not apparent on the front of the saucer
Dimensions:  Cup - Height 6.7cm, diameter 7.6cm, Saucer  Height 2.3cm, diameter 16cm
