Beautiful, very clean condition original skillfully produced Victorian tinted stone lithograph with accurate and picturesque detail from 1864, all colour tinted Print is fresh and bright, attractive.
Thomas Bowler (1812-1869)_ was the most famous Victorian South African artist, painted a large number of scenes of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The best scenes were published in limited numbers in portfolios of lithographs.
You can tell this is the original Victorian tinted stone lithograph and not a later copy because of the fantastic fine detail and the irregular and non geometric stipple effect caused by the stone used. There are no signs of later modern lithography and the paper used is the original. Framed behind glass in a gilt painted wooden frame. Print is mounted loose with only tape on mount, as is best.
Frame is 39 cm x 31 cm and lithograph is 27 cm x 16 cm, with wide blank border fully intact under mount.
Postnet to Postnet or The Courier Guy to door to major cities and towns is just R99.
