This particular deck was the last deck sourced from the official South African distributor of U.S. Games Systems, Inc.
These decks were originally printed in 1996 (24 years ago), and feature unique artwork inspired by the The Hobbit (1977 film) and The Lord of the Rings (1978 film), as well as the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien. In 1997, a set was publish featuring the deck, a companion book, plus storage box (book and box not sold in this listing). And the rest, is history...
E-mail excerpt from U.S. Games Systems, Inc., dated 2020-07-14: " U.S. Games has relinquished the license for Lord of the Rings and has 0 inventory. The same is true with The Hobbit Tarot Deck and Card Game."
:
"Initially, Miramax was backing the production of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings films in 1997, but was restricted by then-owner Disney, who demanded that they turn the story into one film instead of two films, thus Jackson brought the project to New Line Cinema, who acquired the rights to develop The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit from Miramax for about $12 million. (Miramax retained a 5% stake in the gross.) Principal photography for Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy was conducted concurrently in New Zealand from 11 October 1999 through to 22 December 2000. Produced under license from Tolkien Enterprises and released by New Line between 2001 and 2003, the films met critical and commercial success."

The Lord of the Rings Tarot unites two great traditions: the spiritual, mystical tradition of the tarot, and the world of folklore and fairy tales that is most delightfully depicted in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The added factor of a card game summons you to travel through Middle-earth to reach mount Doom and destroy the One Ring!
