ROYAL COPENHAGEN DENMARK FIGURINE FAUN RIDING A GOAT 737

A LOVELY ROYAL COPENHAGEN PORCELAIN FIGURINE  OF A FAUN (PAN/SATYR) RIDING A GOAT.

FIGURINE WAS SCULPTED BY CHRISTIAN THOMSEN AND FIRST ISSUED IN 1963. THIS ATTRACTIVE FIGURINE IS FROM THE "FAIRY TALES, TROLLS AND FAUNS" SERIES OF UNUSUAL AND ADORABLE FAUN FIGURINES AND IS CURRENTLY RETIRED.

THE FIGURINE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR REPAIRS.

MEASURES 20cm HIGH, 18cm LONG AND 8/cm WIDE.

MARKED WITH THE ROYAL COPENHAGEN TRADEMARK STAMP, "DENMARK", ARTIST INITIAL'S "NFX" AND NUMBER "737".

THESE POPULAR ROYAL COPENHAGEN PORCELAIN FIGURINES OF FAUNS ARE COLLECTED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. A FAUN IS CHARACTERIZED AS BEING A MIX OF HUMAN AND ANIMAL WITH A HUMAN TORSO AND A HAIRY LOWER BODY WITH HOOFED FEET.

FAUNS ARE CREATURES FROM CLASSICAL MYTHOLOGY. THEY DESCEND FROM THE GOD FAUNUS AND ARE CALLED FAUNI IN LATIN AND ARE THE EQUIVALENT OF THE GREEK SATYRS WHICH ARE DESCENDANTS FROM THE GREEK GOD PAN. USUALLY FAUNS AND SATYRS ARE DEPICTED AS BEING HALF HUMAN WITH HORNS AND POINTED EARS AND THE LOWER BODY OF A GOAT.

Comes with a professional repair to the horns.A really great job.
