Some interesting information.......

These objects are fish carvers. They are sometimes called fish servers. The fork and blade are made from EPNS, the ferrules are silver and the handles are plastic. Fish carvers were used at dinner to gently remove and serve individual portions from a large fish. As in this example, the blades of fish carvers, slices and eaters are often designed to resemble the shape of a fish. The price of the carvers was dependant on the material used, the size of the objects and the amount of decoration. The cheapest were made from EPNS, with little decoration and with ivory or plastic handles. The most expensive were made from silver and ornately decorated with saw piercing and engraving, with thick fluted ivory handles. Fish carvers could be bought alone, or as part of a set including fish eating knives and forks (sometimes shortened to 'fish eaters' in Sheffield). The blade of the fish carver is marked 'EPNS' in four separate punches. The silver ferrules are by William Beatson & Sons. They are stamped with the firm's mark, 'CB'. This was registered by William Beatson at Sheffield Assay Office in February 1879. Beatson & Sons were based at Albion Works on Fitzwilliam Street. The firm is described in the 1917 Sheffield commercial directory as "whip mount & ferrule manufacturers".
