First edition published 1951 by Robert Hale Limited. No dust jacket. Colour photograph pasted on cover probably came from the dust jacket. Dust jacket blurb pasted on reverse of cover. Inscription on first flyleaf. Front and end flyleafs foxed, as well as page edges. Inside pages clean and readable, but yellowed. Binding still sturdy.

The transfer of power in India is widely recognised as one of the greatest single developments in world affairs since the Second World War.

This is the riveting day-by-day record by Campbell-Johnson of his third assignment on Lord Mountbatten's staff, this time in civilian capacity as press attaché to India's last Viceroy and first constitutional Governor-General.

With many historical black and white photographs
