John Bodman Carrington was a silversmith and jeweler. His journey started as he worked for the Birmingham firm G. R. Collins & Co, at 130 Regent Street, London. In 1880 he entered his first mark at the Goldsmiths Hall of London, with his partners John Carrington, William Carrington Smith, and George Budford - an incorporated company.
This company specialized in high-quality silverware pieces, ranging from trophies to teaware services; they were known for being suppliers to restaurants and hotels. They also gained a reputation for their fine jewellery and the pieces they produced were sought after by European royals; obtaining Royal Warrants from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Edward VII, and George V.
Due to the high quality of their pieces, renowned companies such as Tiffany & Co and Cartier were seen to retail items.
Carrington was named the Prime Warden of the Goldsmith Company in 1902 and later retired, leaving the company to be continued by W. C. Smith as a sole partner. In 1922 the firm was incorporated by Collingwood
