By age 27 he was already known as "Jerusalem" Warren. His other, more popular name was "The Mole". But as a Royal Engineer working for the London-based Palestine Exploration Funs, Charles Warren was the very first explorer to uncover untold secrets of the ancient city--secrets which had been buried beneath tons of rubble for millennia. Forbidden initially to work on, or near, the ancient Temple Mount, he had instead gone underground, digging shafts and tunnels and facing incredible dangers daily. Between 1867-1870 Warren uncovered Jerusalem asĀ  no other explorer has since. This book catalogues his adventures--in a city which still offers to the faithful a Promise of Paradise.
