This charming Late 20th Century porcelain figurine, Cherry Ripe, bears all of the hallmarks of Reg Johnsons multi-faceted talent, not only as designer, but also as potter and painter. Superbly modeller, beautifully decorated, and fired in his own studio, this delightful piece offers the perfect introduction to the works of this talented Staffordshire artist, examples of whose work may now be viewed at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. The underside with printed text, viz :- Cherry Ripe, Detail from the painting by Sir John Everett Millais, R.A. { 1829 1896 } Robinson Collection, Millais began painting in the Royal Academy Schools when 11 years old. In 1848 he founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with Hunt and Rossetti seeking to emulate painters before Raphael. He later abandoned these theories, and eventually became President of the Royal Academy and a baronet., and fully signed in black script, viz. :- by Studio Potter Reg Johnson.
