With chapters on inter alia Prehistoric Lauderdale, the Royal Burgh of Lauder, the Old Tolbooth, Ecclesiastical History, Dissent in Lauder, the House and Castle of Dunbar, Witchcraft in Lauderdale, Schools and Schoolmasters, Weather, Work and Wages, Ornithology, Botany, and Geology. With a frontispiece portrait of Robert Romanes, in memory of whom this book was written. 62 illustrations, including photographs, a fold-out map of the parish of Lauder, a fold-out family tree of the Maitlands of Thirlestane and a fold-out Charter by King James IV. With an index.
First published 1902 by Craighead Brothers, Galashiels, 1902. The book is bound in the original olive-green cloth covered boards with gilded title on spine and a gilded stamped emblem on front. Spine loose at front and back pastedown, but no loose pages. Cloth on cover rubbed. Edges at top and tail of spine slightly frayed. Corners slightly bend.
