Tritonia (Flame Freesia) is a genus of flowering plants in the iris family with around 28 species. They are wildly distributed mainly in South Africa and are close related to the genus Ixia. Small Bulbous plant up to 8 cm. Appears in great numbers in spring. Leaves fan-Shaped. Flowers shades of yellow, orange, and Brown, Sweet-smelling, and gives off a very strong parfume especially at night. Not grazed. Located in Bushman Land ; Great Escarpment ; Northern, Upper And Great Karoo in rante. The genus name is derived from the Latin word triton, meaning "weathervane", and alludes to the apparently random arrangement of the stamens in some species. Growing to 40cm, Reddish orange flowers with reddish black marks in the throat are a feature of this spring flowering plant. USDA Zone - 8 Season to Sow - Autumn |
