Vintage Biscuit Tin made by ARKS depicting the Four Seasons in an embroidered print c1970

Beautiful tin with a special embroidered print of the four seasons. This biscuit tin has a separate lid with the brand name ARKS upon it, decorated with a bundle of ears of corn. At the end of the fifties, the ARK brand name was transferred to ARKS. In 1975 the factory was taken over by "Bolletje". This biscuit tin is richly decorated.

Spring is presented on this tin with embroidered illustrations of hanging laundry, bicycles, rakes in the garden and a tree with blossom. On the side spring flowers and catkins in bloom.

Summer is presented with embroidered scenes of a cornflower, sitting under a parasol and playing soccer under a bright sun. On the side poppies and chamomile and ear of corn.

The autumn is presented with images of apple picking and an autumn wind with swaying trees. On the side are acorns, berries and mushrooms.

Winter is presented with winter fun like ice skating people a snowman and a fir. On the sides are holly, pine branches and more.

In 1920 Ark's was a traditional bakery where rusks and gingerbread were made. The ARK family consisted of five sons and two daughters. Two of these sons, Gerrit Jan van Ark and Martinus Johan van Ark, decided to build a factory in 1931 on the Zwolseweg in Heerde, the Netherlands. Ark's Rusk factory is still there today.

At Ark's, in the beginning, only rusks and gingerbread were made. In 1938 biscuit/cookies were added. Ark's delivered to the local bakers and later on to the grocers throughout the Netherlands. Ark's products were particularly popular in provinces such as Overijssel, Zeeland, and Zuid Holland. In 1975 the factory was taken over by 'Bolletje'. Ark's products were a welcome addition to the Bolletje assortment!

For a tin that is older than 50 years, it is in a remarkably good condition. It does have some signs of use and wear to be expected from a tin of this age.
