Sarreguemines Jug in the shape of a pig France - 1890-1919 - Folk Art - Earthenware An antique, not marked Signed on base, could be the artist ,Sarreguemines Majolica pitcher depicting a pig. The nostrils are the spout.It is made ca. 1890. A nice mustard- coloured glaze with link-red highlights at the nose, ears and cheeks. Black legs and snout.The glaze has a nice crackle, which is not strange given its age of more than 120 years and only contributes to the charm of the pitcher.It has a firing crack on the handle and a chip to the inside rim. Can be used as a water pitcher, though also as a gravy boat, where the grease will be separated from the gravy when poured through the nostrils. 22cm x 18 x 13cm
