Title: "Dedham Mill" by John Constable, A Fenton China Company Decorative Wall Plate. Manufacturer: Fenton China Company, Made in England. Bone China Plate. Diameter: 27cm. Info: Dedham Mill, like that at Flatford, was owned and operated by Constables father. This sketch of it, showing Dedham church to the right, was probably painted on the spot during Constables long holiday with his wife Maria in Suffolk in 1817. As it is unfinished, this work is particularly interesting in revealing Constables working methods at this date. John Constable, RA (11 June 1776 31 March 1837) was an English landscape painter in the Romantic tradition. Born in Suffolk, he is known principally for revolutionising the genre of landscape painting with his pictures of Dedham Vale, the area surrounding his home now known as "Constable Country" which he invested with an intensity of affection. "I should paint my own places best", he wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821, "painting is but another word for feeling". Condition: Very Good, the image is still good and the gold trim on the edging is in very good condition. Price: R 295.00 Inc Vat.
