Jean Welz(1900-1975) gebore te Salzburg, Oostenryk, emigreer op 37-jarige ouderdom na Suid-Afrika, In die loop van sy merkwaardige lewe waarin hy swak gesondheid te bowe kom, werk hy as argitek, beel-dende kunstenaar en kunsonderwyser. Met vindingryheid aanvaar hy die uitdagings van die newe land om hom to onderskei as 'n voortreflike kunstenaar.
Hierdie monografie bevat Welz se lewe, loopbaan en ervaringe deur die loop van sy lewe. Van argitek na beeldende kunstenaar, na kunsonderwyser. Van Oostenryk na Parys (Europa) tot Suid Afrika.
Sy stillewes, landskappe, portrette en naakstudies weerspieel sy voortdurende verkenning van die natuur asook sy besondere tegnieke in pastelle, houtskool en olieverf.
