While still at university, Robert Swan became possessed by the idea of a journey on foot to the South Pole. No such attempt has been made since Captain Scott and his companions, beaten by the Norwegian explorer Amundsen, perished on their return march in 1912. This is a story of adventure, adversities, jubilation and despair as three men marched in total isolation, without radio link or back-up supply deposits, to the South Pole, and reached it six days ahead of schedule. With colour photographs.
