Growing Nasturtiums are beneficial for both the garden and yourself. All parts of the nasturtium plant are edible. The flowers are sweet and the leaves, flowers, and seeds all have a peppery spicy flavour.
Nasturtiums plants are often used as trap crops for attracting aphids and squash bugs. They are interplanted with crops like Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and kale to keep your crops healthy, fertile and pest-free. Nasturtiums also attract good bugs to the garden like pollinators and hoverflies, a predator of pests like aphids.
Many nasturtium varieties grow in a long, vining habit, climbing to heights of 2-3 meters when growing on a supporting structure or trailing along the ground when support is unavailable.
Plant nasturtiums in full sun with 6-8 hours of sunlight for the best results. They also grow in partial shade with 3-6 hours of sunlight, though they wont bloom as well.
