Rare Fabulous Silver 'George III' Candle Wick Trimmer/Snuffer (1762)
This fabulous, fine quality, rare, antique, solid silver, candle snuffer/wick trimmer from the mid 1700's is a wonderful example of such an early rare piece. It is beautifully made from a thick gauge of silver with decorative sprung handles, a shaped chamber with a blank cartouche above, resting on three small feet, two under the handles and one in front. This candle snuffer or wick trimmer is in excellent condition and functions well, and it's hard to believe it's over 250 years old. It was manufactured in London in 1762 by silversmiths 'John Booth' (IB), who made a number of these candle wick trimmers in the late 1700's, but this was the earliest pair I came across on the net. It measures 15,7cm in length, with a width of 6cm, stand 4cm high and weigh 109,3g.
