A near-antique, very, very rare and utterly sumptuous tea trio by Royal Worcester in a pattern called "Bordeaux".
The pieces are hand-painted and 'jeweled' with enamel highlights. The inside of the cup (but not its bottom) is a light yellow as opposed to white.
This design was registered in 1922 and these three pieces manufactured in 1926-27, making them almost antiques!
This pattern is very rare and a trio like this would retail in the UK for well in excess of R1 500, so this is a real steal.
The trio is in very good used condition with no chips, cracks or grazing. The cake or side plate shows the most signs of usage and there is some minor pattern loss, especially on the edge (see the last photo). The plate is surprisingly heavy, weighing as much as the saucer and cup combined.
Dimensions -- cup: 5.2cm H x 10cm D (across the opening), saucer: 2cm H x 14cm D and plate: 17.6cm D.
