With a shift of the Jewish population in the Johannesburg area, certain Congregations have gone out of existence. The Fordsburg Mayfair Congregation, one of the earliest founded here, is no more. This volume is a record of its activities over a period of 71 years, and embraces an important part of the history of local Jewry.

The contents and the illustrations are an enshrinement of the memory of those pioneers who kept the Jewish faith alive here in the face of many difficulties, and also a most valuable contribution to Africana.
