The Magic Flute, K. 620, is an opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. The work is in the form of a Singspiel, a popular form during the time it was written that included both singing and spoken dialogue.

The Magic Flute is set in ancient Egypt. Its story centers around Tamino, a young prince who enters a quest to win the hand of the princess, whose name is Pamina. To marry Pamina, Tamino must undergo a series of initiation rites (symbolic of those found in Freemasonry) which test his dedication to reason.
