Title: Vintage Alfred Meakin Famous Cottages Series Gravy Boat and Saucer. Manufactured By: Alfred Meakin, Staffordshire, Made In England circa 1970's. Height: 10cm. Width: 15cm. Length: 20.5cm. Info: Classic English style Gravy Boat with handle by Alfred Meakin from the "Famous Cottages" series depicting "John Peel Cottage." The Saucer depicts "Constable's Cottage" from the same series. Alfred Meakin Ltd was set up in 1875 and operated from the Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall. Alfred Meakin was the brother of James and George Meakin who ran a large pottery company in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent Alfred Meakin died in 1904 and was succeeded by his son Alfred James who died only four years later. Robert Johnson bought the company for his son Stuart Johnson and it stayed in the Johnson family's hands until 1976 when it became Myott-Meakin before becoming part of the Churchill Group. Condition: Very Good, no chips or cracks on the gravy boat and saucer, some crazing on the saucer, the gravy boat has no crazing. Price: R 275.00 Inc Vat.
