Montagnani Beautifully Handcrafted Italian Silver plated souvenir collector spoons teaspoons with a Figural finial and ornate stem = Symbols of Italy. 1871-1891. Spoons are non-magnetic which is probably silver over brass. Classical Roman Motifs / Mythology. The Italian factory was started in 1871 by a man named Giovanni. Italian souvenir spoons were made in brass, pewter, silver plate, gold plate, and sterling silver. Not every handle design was made with sterling and not every handle design used all the figural designs. Not all spoons were marked Italy. Montagnani was probably the most productive maker of these spoons. Montagnani spoons that are not marked were made from 1871 to 1891, those crafted after 1891 to 1918, when the factory was closed, due to WWI, were stamped "Italy".
