HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
Tilley storm lamp, model number X246-May, has been manufactured since 1964.An illustration of the main components of the kerosene burner using a kerosene blowtorchA little pump at the bottom of a pressure lamp's fuel tank presses the kerosene. A burner (gas outlet) is located at the top of the lamp, which has a little opening called a flue up to it. The mantle, a fabric bag coated with chemicals that ignite when heated by the gas flame, is directly beneath the burner.
The brightness of the burner lamp is well recognized. The amount of pressure applied to the wick is what makes it so bright. This pressure enables a consistent illumination and a steady flow of gasoline.
