Wedgwood Primrose Jasperware Am I Not A Man And A Brother Anti Slavery Pin Dish

Wedgwood Black on Primrose Yellow Jasperware Am I Not A Man And A Brother Anti-Slavery Pin Dish

Wedgwood Black on Primrose Yellow Jasperware
AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER? Anti-Slavery Pin Dish
A Wedgwood round tray produced to commemorate William Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery 1833.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1822 and also the death of William Wilberforce (1759-1833), the Parliamentary leader of the abolitionist campaign, round tray (measuring 11cm/4.25 inches).

The round tray reproduces the decoration and wording of the slave medallion modelled in 1787 by Hackwood from the seal of the Slave Emancipation Society. Josiah Wedgwood was himself an active supporter of the Society and produced several hundreds of the medallion. Many were made in black on white Jasper but other combinations were also produced.
