Moses Masaya entered the world in Nyanga, located in the eastern region of Zimbabwe. The turning point in his professional journey occurred in 1968 when he first laid eyes on the artistic creations of the influential individual, Joram Mariga. It didn't take long for Mariga to recognize Masaya's exceptional talent.
In 1970, Masaya became a member of the Vukutu Workshop, which was established by Frank McEwen, the Director of the National Gallery. Several of Masaya's sculptures gained significant prominence in the groundbreaking exhibition of Shona sculpture held at the Musée Rodin in Paris.
Throughout his career as a sculptor, Masaya exerted his artistic vision onto the stone, frequently bringing about substantial changes to the stone's original form. His fondness for sharp and precise lines is evident in his depictions of faces and figures.
