Info: Walther Kristallglas Komet m. Shliff Kabarett Oval dish. Nr 2734.
Length: 28cm.

The company was founded by August Walther in 1865 and was originally called Walther und Sohne. In 1932, the company merged with Saxonian Glass Company and was known as Saschsische Glasfabrik August Walther und Sohne AG. Originally based in Ottendorf-Okrilla, north Germany, in 1933, production moved to Schwepnitz, East Germany.
During the 1930s, the company was one of the premier producers of high quality pressed glass items and they manufactured a range of products in the Art Deco style, including vases, bowls and figurines. Walther-glas also made table sets, lamps and glass pendules.
After WW2 the factory was nationalised and became "VEB Sachsenglas" in the old East Germany and it became increasingly difficult to export to Western Europe. Production was curtailed in 1965 as the old moulds were worn out and it was decided to slow down rather than to introduce new moulds. Operations did continue until 1990 when re-unification occurred in Germany,
Operations then moved to Bad Driburg, in central Germany under Volker Walther, who began using the name of Walther-glas again.
Condition: Unused, as new, excellent condition.
