Antique Georgian  porcelain Chinoiserie teacup and saucer Circa 1810-1820 Ref. C- 52

The charming cup and saucer duo shown above (typically unmarked) is typical of an early transfer printed 'Broseley' or 'Two Temple' design on a fine translucent white porcelain pearlware.  A number of companies could have produced this duo , namely Caughley, Miles Mason, Davenport, Rogers, Wedgwood, Spode, Copeland.  The shape of the cup and handle, the depth of the saucer and lack of a centre 'well' for the cup to rest in, all point to the early 1810-1820 era. A fairly heavy glaze, showing an 'orange-peel' effect and small black spots (due to contamination of coal dust from the kilns) also help to substantiate the date.

The cup and saucer, both showing gilded inner circles and rims, are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. No restoration is evident.  However, there is a distinct 'firing flaw' to the underside of the saucer. This does not penetrate the saucer and is partly filled with glaze.

The cup stands 5.6cm high with a diameter of 9.4cm at the rim. The saucer stands 3cm high with a diameter of 14.2cm.
