History: Along with Limoges in France, Vienna became a centre for the production of painted enamels in the second half of the 19th century.  Major workshops by well-known silversmiths, such as Linke, Bohm and Ratzersdorfer, created elaborate confections in the "Ringstrasse" taste, catering primarily to a burgeoning affluent clientèle.Vienna emerged as one of the most important European centres for decorative arts in the mid-19th century. The city's prime location within the centre of the Holy Roman Empire allowed a unique infusion of artistic styles and techniques. This influx gave rise to a highly skilled force of Viennese artisans proficient in creating some of the finest rock crystal and enamel works the world has ever seen.
