Book and wrapper in great unmarked condition. >>> This book is a fictionalised history of the last Empress of China, but that doesn't make it any less a delight to read. The adventures of Nala, and the sacrifices she has to make on her journey from young daughter in a good Chinese household to Empress, make for engrossing reading. She is a beautifully drawn character, as is Jung Lu, her lover. And the descriptions of Chinese households, and The Forbidden City are detailed and enchanting. I've read it again and again.
