Published in London by Methuen in 1900.
Much better than normally found. Spine has bright gilt with minimal wear and boards are very good too. Normally this edition has a lot more wear than this. Despite this, price has been reduced.
Very good indeed. Red cloth binding with gilt hence the true first edition, not the later colonial edition in green, and extremely rare in this condition. Binding tight. Bright gilt on red spine and front board. Light foxing. Bookplate inside front board of previous owner. and contemporary signature on front free endpaper. All 17 illustrations present including the 3 maps, one large fold-out, and the photographs of bomb damage.
