The Afrox Transcast 55 is an all-position electrode with a bimetal core wire that deposits a nickel-iron alloy weld metal, which is machinable without undue difficulty. The weld metal of Transcast 55 provides a close color match with the casting after machining. The low electrical resistance of the core wire helps avoid heat build-up in the electrode, ensuring consistent arc and flux characteristics.
This electrode is specifically developed for strength welding of high-duty cast irons such as alloyed cast iron, meehanite, malleable iron, and nodular irons. It is ideal for welding various types of cast irons to each other or to steel. Additionally, it can be used to weld high-phosphorus castings and to join sections of grey iron to the same or ferrous materials. While preheating is recommended, the consumable can be used without preheating the parent material.
