Description: Antique silver and glass Edwardian 'Glue Bottle'sometimes referred to as a 'stamp moistener' dated around 1900. Ref. JW-13
Maker: Possibly Joseph Gloster, Birmingham. England
Date: 1901-1902 estimate.
History: This very elegant and distinctive silver lidded glass glue bottle was made in Birmingham 1901-1902. Made of a clear glass with very evenly distributed 'bubbles', these were used to seal envelopes and glue stamps. Glue on stamps was only introduced from the very end of the 19th century.
Marks/Observations: These Edwardian glue bottles are scarce. The round shaped glass bottle has a silver sterling silver lid with an integral brush. The Birmingham silver marks and the maker's name are both present on the top of the lid.
Condition: Apart from the silver and maker's mark which are badly rubbed (which prevents an accurate date of manufacture), the bottle remains in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches.
Dimensions: Height 8.0 cm, diameter 6.6 cm
