A fair condition hardcover book, no dustjacket.
Gilt titling and ox-waggon motif to front board with gilt titling to spine. Gilt is dulled on the spine.
Blind stamped vignette to back board.
Spine band is frayed at head and tail with a slit for one-third of its length along the back hinge from the tail.
Gift inscription to half title page.
Front hinge is cracked at the title-page and the paperblock is loose.
Illustration at page 50 is unattached and the final illustration (Delagoa Bay) at page 206 is missing.
Thus thirteen of the author's fourteen illustrations are present.
