Wonderful work by the ceramist Carlo Mollica with bright and defined colours, an extremely expressive face, a real masterpiece of great Italian ceramics.
The old Neapolitan manufacture Mollica was founded by Giovanni Mollica, son of Pasquale, former ceramist of the Real FabbricaFerdinandea and Giustiniani, in 1842. It was based in Via Santa Lucia.
In the first half of the 1920s Giuseppe Macedonio collaborated with the factory.
In 1927 Mollicas factory bought some production moulds by Guido Cacciapuoti and started to manufacture its models.
In the early 1930s the management of the factory passed to Carlo Mollica, who modernised the production of interesting works influenced by the 20th-century movements.
In the 1940s and 1950s the factory made ceramics, tableware, flower and fruit centrepieces, and resumed the production of full-relief porcelain and polychrome terracotta figures. The statuette has a height of 27 cm and a width of 23 cm.
From the early 1950s the company resumed its traditional production in Capodimonte style, creating new and original subjects, quickly imitated by other manufacturers of the same area.
The factory, that was active until 1978, was used by many factories in Campania and beyond, with the word Mollica. Also known by the letter N.
