Very large oil on board by one of Capri's most famous artists, Salvatore Federico. 100 cm wide and 70 cm high. Can be sent overseas by tracked mail but quite expensive due to size. 

Salvatore Federico is an institution on the island of Capri, off Naples in Italy. He has had the same art gallery  in a street close to the Villa San Michelle in the town of Anacapri for 57 unbroken years. His daughter Daniela has seen this painting and has told me that paintings of this size by her father are sold currently for 6000 euro.

The subject is the Grotta Verde( Green Grotto )  with the Faraglioni rocks in the background, in the moonlight at night. These caves give off a special green light due to the particular colour of the clear Mediterranean sea beneath them which plays with the reflected light.  Unlike the more famous Blue Grotto which has  similar light effect but of blue because the light source is smaller, you are allowed to swim in the Green Grotto .  The location of these caves is on the southern side of the island a bit further down the coast from the Marina Piccola. They can only be reached by boat.
